At a glance

The HSBC Elite Mastercard® credit card ups the ante on earning rewards and competes with other high-end travel cards such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and The Platinum Card® from American Express.

Our review of the HSBC Elite Credit Card

The HSBC Elite Credit Card is a top-tier travel rewards card that comes with a $395 annual fee. However, the perks that come with this card make it well worth the cost.

One of the standout features of this card is the 50,000 bonus points you can earn after spending $4,000 within the first three months of account opening. These points are valued at $750 when redeemed through HSBC’s rewards portal.

In addition to the generous sign-up bonus, you’ll earn 3X points per dollar spent on new travel purchases, 2X points on dining out, and 1X points on all other purchases. Your points won’t expire as long as your account remains open.

When it comes time to redeem your points, you can use them for flights, hotel stays, or car rentals. You can book flights through the HSBC Rewards portal or directly with the airline and receive a statement credit for the cost.

The card also offers perks such as free airport lounge access, annual travel incidentals credit, Uber and Lyft credits, TSA Precheck reimbursement, Boingo Wi-Fi access, and comprehensive travel insurance coverage, including trip cancellation insurance.

While the $395 annual fee may seem steep, it’s actually lower than what other premium travel cards charge. If you’re a frequent traveler who doesn’t mind the annual fee and can take advantage of the card’s benefits, the HSBC Elite Mastercard® could be a valuable addition to your wallet.
